Big Drop Paradiso Citra IPA

Paradise: now available in bulk. This 0.5% Citra IPA from Big Drop delivers tropical citrus and sharp bitterness on an industrial scale. London-engineered, supermarket-approved, genuinely delicious. The British dream.

Aroma & Taste

Tropical · Citrus · Bitter

Big Drop Paradiso opens with vibrant tropical aromas of mango and grapefruit, complemented by zesty citrus notes from the signature Citra hop blend.

On the palate, the beer delivers juicy citrus flavour with a light, crisp body, balanced by caramelised orange sweetness and a satisfying hop bitterness that builds steadily.

The finish is sharp and refreshing, leaving behind a clean, dry aftertaste with lingering tropical fruit that invites another sip — genuinely sessionable.

Story & Design

Pioneering · Industrial · London

Big Drop Brewing launched in 2016 as UK's first dedicated alcohol-free brewery — founded by City lawyer Rob Fink and designer James Kindred after fatherhood made them realise there were no good NA options.

Their model is contract brewing at scale — partnering with breweries across Melbourne, Toronto, Chicago, and the UK rather than building a single facility. Industrial efficiency over artisanal romance.

Paradiso earned the World's Best title at the 2021 World Beer Awards and became the first NA beer crowned 'King of Craft' at the 2019 Casual Dining Show — beating full-strength competition.

Ingredients & Value

Pale Ale · 0.5% · 7 kcal

This IPA uses a seven-ingredient formula including water, malted barley, vegetable glycerine, oats, wheat, hops, and yeast. The glycerine adds body without alcohol — a processed ingredient that divides craft purists but enables that surprisingly full mouthfeel at 0.5%.

At just 3 kcal and <0.5g sugar per 100ml, it's remarkably light — one of the lowest-calorie IPAs we've reviewed. At €2.49 per can, it's aggressively priced — industrial efficiency passed on to your wallet.

Verdict & Opinion

Rebel

The British invented the IPA to survive a sea voyage to India. Two centuries later, they engineered one to survive a trip to Tesco.

Big Drop doesn't pretend to be a garage startup. They're a business built on spreadsheets, contract brewing, and supermarket negotiations. The romance is in the results, not the origin story. Paradiso won World's Best by tasting exceptional, not by having a quaint backstory. Sometimes the best beer is the one you can actually find.

Drinking it feels like vindication for everyone who's ever defended mass availability over craft exclusivity. The citrus hits clean, the bitterness lands right, and that glycerine-assisted body makes you forget you're drinking something with fewer calories than a rice cake.

The emerald green can sits on Waitrose shelves next to Heineken 0.0, quietly outclassing everything around it. That's the rebellion — winning on their turf, with their rules, using their distribution channels.

Rebel status confirmed. Paradise found in aisle seven.
